Melissa Harris Perry Gate and Other non existent bullshit

So you know it's serious when I haven't blogged in a year and this craziness has got my fingers typing. In case you missed it people are stringing up Melissa Harris Perry by her toes for a segment on her show that seems like it was looking back on moments of 2013.  One of those moments being the Romney family photo including Romney's adopted black grand son. Don't take my word watch the National Review's youtube clip:

If you're like me you've watched it twice or three times wondering what the fug is all the fuss about.  And let me tell you out in the Twittersphere it has gotten hectic.  So much so that MHP felt the need to apologize because she's classy like that - and she said you can't make up people's truth for them if someone is offended then you have to respect that.  While I agree with that I disagree that the uprising came from mommy blogs and the hoardes of parents who interracially adopt. By the way in intereresting facts - did you know that black babies are cheaper to adopt.  NPR said it's so it must be true. "Black Babies Are Cheaper"

I digress - my point is that the vitrol has come not from white mommies but a bunch of white wacko racists jinned up by the conservative blogosphere i.e. Michelle Malkin (not sure what that chics deal is) who just want to use this as an opportunity to say AHA gotcha black people are racists too.  Twitter comments against Pia Glenn the other black female on the panel are below so you can get a feel for the nastiness:

  • <<< Racist Nigger who made fun of Mitt Romney's adopted black grandson cause he was black. Proves Negros wish they were white!
  • Such a piece of shit you are. Ur 15 minutes of fame are up and you fucked it all up. Cant blame White America can ya bitch?
  • Who in the blue hell are you? an actress you do a bad rap video you ain't that hot i seen better ho's in a box of doughnuts stfu
  • If you ever wondered why woman get called the "C" word all you have to do is look in the mirror after your Romney comment.
Holy crap you would've thought this woman sent us into an expensive unwarranted war or committed genocide or raped babies.

Instead she made an observation that people of color often feel about interracial adoption. This adoption being even more hyper sensitive because of the prominence and ideology of the baby's grandpappy.

I mean this aint just about race - ask Lynn Cheney what's it's like to be born to a family that ideologically doesn't recognize the struggle and strife you will face as an underepresented minority, be you black or a gay woman who wants to marry her partner.

But if you want to talk about race, what's really pissing me off about this is that there are so many subtle and underlying acts of racism that no one gives a shit about. As a black woman I just think about the indignities, prejudices and sly comments that you face every day on a job where you're in the minority. Yet white conservatives are in an uproar about two black women commenting on the social awkwardness of interracial adoption in a light way that gives humor to what is a long needed discussion that needs to be had. It's hard as hell growing up in a white dominated society as a minority - I can't even imagine being a black baby in the Romney family.

Feel free to go online and show your support for @piaglenn and Melissa Harry Perry. I don't think any of the white people on the panel are getting flamed.

Occam's razor as relationship advice

Ok I first have to admit that I can be some what of a pseudo intellect.  Meaning I had to google Occam's razor because I'm not Sheldon Cooper smart. But after googling I thought of a lot of practical applications for this theory. Occam's razor states: all things being equal the simplest explanation is the most likely.
Which immediately made me think of all the ways I've tried to complicate things men have said to me in life.  And I'm definitely not alone - many of my friends share this dumb ass habit.  You know the one where you come up with a deeply complicated - bordering on fantasy fiction explanation for why someone is being a douche.  Like why hasn't that guy friended me on Facebook or why did he ask me to go dutch on a date - or did he just ask for gas money?  Or why is he out so late and didn't call me.  Or why didn't I get a call on my birthday.  Wait.. did this dude just break into my house and steal my wallet.  Ok that never happened to me at least.
Now in the past I can come up with lots of excuses - maybe he's suffering from that thing that's going around and is just under the weather - maybe he just traded his car in for a hybrid and he's just not used paying for gas - I don't know why someone would trade out of a hybrid - just go with it.  Maybe he doesn't check Facebook that often.  Maybe he that other girl is his sister.
But Occam's razor solves all that - by saying that you are complicating things way too much.  So in short he's probably just a jerk, or he's a broke jerk, or he's a broke jerk who is also a criminal.
This can also be called the He's Just Not That Into theory - but who ever came up with Occam's razor isn't around the sue the Sex and the City guy.
And looksie I'm not the only chickadie who has made the correlation.  While writing this I googled Occam's razor and He's Just Not that Into you.  And in further proof of another theory: there's nothing new under the sun.  A writer from Galmour came to the same conclusion.

Bangable Dudes in History

There's something for everyone on the interwebs.  I mean everyone.  Here's a really good site on smart cute historical people you wish you could shag but you can't because rigamortis has long set in.

Bangable Dudes in History: My apologies, friends. Work has been all-consuming...: My apologies, friends. Work has been all-consuming, as have been my post-work naps. But thanks be to Milo for providing the steely-eyed fo...

NPR's Michel Martin - A Black Girl Nerd Role Model

NPR's Michel Martin is featured in this month's issue of Washingtonian discussing the things that made her who she is. But let's talk directly about her black girl nerd bonafides:

1. She works for NPR - nuff said.  I heart public radio so.
2. Are those a pair of cute spectacles she's holding?
3. She read the Excorcist as a child.  See my profile over to the right >>>>
ps Michel I did not sleep for ages either
4. She has a cute natural do that makes a statement without trying too hard.
caveat you can be a BGN with straight hair people.
5. She loves news.

I will add the disclaimer that I know Michel personally and consider her a mentor - not because I'm name dropping but just to state my bias - and because maybe I am name dropping just a little.

In addition she's an Emmy Award winning journalist and for you political junkies she was the lone black commentator holding it down for many years as a regular on a Sunday show also known as the white male version of the Miss America pageant- appearing with George Stephonopolis on ABC's this week.

Need I say more - the sister is bad. Take. Notes. Ladies.

Black Girl Nerds: ...This ish Right Here!!

I'm not even going to dignify Mitt Robbedme's PBS/Big Bird comment.  Execept to say GTFOH.  But I will post the angry rant of another Black Girl Nerd:

Black Girl Nerds: ...This ish Right Here!!: Warning: Rant follows... I don’t deal with politics.  I’m not interested in debating with anyone who should be president and why.  No o...

Game of Thrones Eats

I'm sorta into Game of Thrones - if you don't know the series you've been under a rock.  It's definitely nerd girl fare - but I feel like it's also pretty mainstream.  I saw on Twitter that R&B star Amerie is reading it : - albeit she went to Georgetown which pretty much qualifies you as a nerd girl.  I don't think they're reading it in the hood - but I could be wrong.

After reading a couple of the books I began to wonder if I was the only one who got really hungry when they described the food.  I wouldn't consider myself a foodie I just eat a lot.  But seriously every other page they're going on and on about chicken grease sliding down someone's fingers.  And the Homer Simpson voice inside my head is like mmmmm... chicken or mmmmm... Dornish hens.  You get the point. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-4P1WPE-Qg

Well apparently I'm not the only fat girl.  Two nerd chics have come up with a blog and now have a cook book that's all about cooking Westeros food - which I think is just probably medieval cuisine     but sounds good to me.

Check out their blog.  What a cool fan tribute: http://www.innatthecrossroads.com

Today's Google sketch - A nerd's dream

It's almost 7:00 p.m. EST so I'm sure I'm late to this but today's google sketch is a tribute to Star Trek's 46th anniversary.  And it's interactive.  Have fun nerds. www.google.com
